Description

The Little Cocoon Nebula is an emission nebula located in the constellation Sagitta. It is also known as SH2-82. The nebula is surrounded by an envelope of reflection nebulosity and lies adjacent to a streak of dark nebulosity. It is located in a rich part of the Milky Way around 4,000 light years away from us. The nebula is an active star-forming region made of two parts. The red/pink emissive core is surrounded by blue-ish reflective nebula, and a dark dusty area strikes right across the nebula area, creating an interesting framing.
